Functional Zero

Community Solutions, the national nonprofit spearheading the Built for Zero initiative, defines functional zero as:

“At any point in time, the number of people experiencing homelessness in the community will be no greater than that community’s average monthly housing placement rate for those individuals.”

Hurricane Dorian

As Hurricane Dorian approached early September, our BFZ NEFL team was able to lodge six medically-vulnerable homeless veterans in motels around Jacksonville.

Landlord Connection

On October 12th, landlords from all around Northeast Florida gathered at the City of Jacksonville’s annual Homeless Veterans Stand Down to connect with veterans in search of housing.

Lake County, Illinois Reaches Functional Zero for Veteran Homelessness

On July 2, 2019, Lake County, Illinois announced that they have reached both Functional Zero and met federal benchmarks and criteria for ending veteran homelessness.
